Everyone is aware of social media's significant impact on a range of spheres, including intellectual, cultural, sports, social, and business life. Everything is impacted by social media, whether in a good or bad way. Regarding the film industry, social media plays a significant role. Nowadays, as soon as a new movie trailer is released, it immediately goes viral on social media. Social media users are occasionally prompted to critique the movie, frequently without having seen it. Such unfavourable thoughts would then proliferate and become widely held. However, some production companies might assert—without supporting data—that their movies received millions of positive reviews. There is now a great deal of ambiguity and resentment surrounding the issue, and there are unequal benefits and drawbacks. As a result, we discussed the matter with specialists from the film industry.

Freedom of speech

Actress Salwa Mohamed Ali stated that everything on earth has advantages and disadvantages. However, I believe that social media has more advantages than disadvantages, particularly for the film industry. This is due to the fact that it created new opportunities for advertising, platform film screenings, and intellectual and cultural movements centred around any artwork. This is so that artistic education can result from simple debates about artistic creations. This is so that those who are ignorant of art can learn from those who are, and as a result, there will be an increase in intellectuals who are interested in cinema and the arts in general. Regarding the industry, it gains a great deal from the widespread publicity that it did not have previously. Furthermore, since some movies are created with the intention of debuting on social media platforms before they are screened in theaters, social media plays a more beneficial role than a detrimental one for the film industry. Ultimately, if filmmakers generally demand freedom of thought and expression, then everyone should support this right on social media.

We should educate the public

According to Director Omar Abdel Aziz, social media is regarded as the fourth perspective when assessing an artwork, after critics, viewers, and filmmakers. To stop exaggerating any piece of art, the audience must first be educated about the creative process. This is due to the frequent ferocious criticism of a piece of art that can equate to a demand that it be taken down from public display or even that its guardians be imprisoned without cause and that the artwork be moved to trial. These views will vanish as this audience becomes more conscious of cinematic and artistic advancements overall. However, it appears to me that social media has turned into a black market fork.

A dangerous phenomenon

Director Mohamed Yassin According to director Mohamed Yassin, it's a positive thing that social media allows users to voice their opinions on their personal pages. The risk, though, is that these private thoughts could become the general consensus. This can be harmful. For instance, one day you might find a piece of art with little intrinsic worth deemed to be the best, or you might find an ordinary artist who has shot to fame thanks to someone's writings. Yassin also expressed his regret for the experts' disregard for social media. This is because, although they have started to become a "trend," some moviegoers are embarrassed to speak the truth about deserving individuals or deeds. He added, “I hope that the critics specialising in cinema will be active during this period to confront this phenomenon.” He finished his speech by stressing that he does not accept to falsify his point of view in order to agree with the public opinion that is driven by several things, including lack of knowledge or interest and marketing, indicating that he benefits from those published opinions in knowing how they think.”

Social media misleads the people

Social media has an impact on everything, both positively and negatively, according to screenwriter Magdy Saber. However, I think the negative effects of social media go beyond the movie industry. I believe that drama topics in general—whether they are shown on television or in movies—are more negatively impacted by social media, even in terms of the media content of the shows. "Unfortunately, some media outlets don't verify the accuracy of the information they get from social media or follow its source,” he continued. Regrettably, social media rules, which have taken centre stage in shaping public opinion, also have a significant impact on movie topics. Furthermore, dramatic works that are unworthy of recognition and attention are promoted via social media. During the past Ramadan, this is what transpired with certain businesses—names withheld. Sadly, individuals blindly follow art that has been falsely praised. Social media, after all, is a fictional space where the majority of the works it categorises are phoney and lack intrinsic worth. Sadly, social media is followed without distinction by the majority of artistic writing. They do not consider the possibility that doing this will uplift and benefit others. Assumptions exist that literature, film, and theatre should guide viewers from the wrong place to the right one rather than lead them astray. Social media benefits are confined to disseminating information and advancing artistic creations. But generally speaking, social media.
